Back to the Floor
Brief/background
This internal programme called Back to the Floor: managers return to the workplace where they meet staff, and customers, face to face. This benefits them in three ways: they understand better the reality of how people actually work; this means they can identify possible improvements and, on a personal level, they become more customer focussed.
Work involved
We held pre-production meetings so we could understand and get to know both the managers and the staff they'd be visiting (who were drawn from a wide range of support staff, engineers and call-centre operators).
So everyone was clear on what the aims of the day were, managers and hosts were asked questions (which focussed on specific criteria in line with the company strategy) about their expectations of the day and their subsequent experience.
The actuality sequences we filmed in each visit's single day - as well as the answers to the questions - helped to provide each film's narrative.
One of the five programmes was based in Singapore, so we briefed and used one of our partners to film the day, then edited the programme in London to ensure consistency with the others.
An opening title sequence using computer graphics and actual footage was created to lead each programme, and the programmes were made available on the company intranet.
